ACC Regents Review Proposed 2019-20 Budget
The Alvin Community College Board of Regents reviewed the proposed 2019-20 fiscal year budget during their meeting on June 27.
The proposed $34 million budget is a 3.38 percent increase from the current fiscal year budget and includes a 1 percent salary increase for employees.
The proposed budget includes adjustment of four full-time positions (two faculty and two staff) and six part-time positions. It will also include funds for the new Health Information and Cybersecurity programs.
Community colleges are funded through three main sources: state appropriations, student tuition and fees and local property taxes. Estimated revenues for the upcoming fiscal year include $18.81 million from property tax revenue, $8.67 million from tuition and fees and $7.72 million from state appropriations.
Regents will continue to review the budget before they vote on a final version. They will also vote on the tax rate at a future meeting.
In other action, regents had the opportunity to review renovation plans for the Student Center and the Nolan Ryan Center from AGCM, Inc. The proposal includes a remodeling of the floor plan for both facilities along with upgrading the infrastructure.
The renovation is part of the Maintenance Tax Note Project approved by the board in 2018.
The board also:

-approved hiring of Police Chief Jeff Earle
-approved hiring of Industrial Design instructor
-approved grant application for Alvin Sun archive project
-approved schedule of 2019-20 board meetings and workshop
-approved $93,600 in improvements for Band Hall
-approved revisions to local policies DIAA, FFDB and FFDA
-approved monthly financial reports
The board will have its next meeting on July 25 at 6 p.m. in the Nolan Ryan Center.
