ACC Regents Hear Update on Accreditation
Alvin Community College regents received an update on the college’s efforts to pursue the reaffirmation of its accreditation during their meeting on April 25.
President Dr. Christal M. Albrecht reported that college staff members are working in 14 different teams to help generate the decennial report due to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) in February 2020.
Once the report is submitted, the college will undergo a site visit from SACSCOC officials in October 2020.
Reaffirmation occurs every 10 years. It includes the reporting of all major changes to the college (such as the offering of new programs or degrees); the submission of a Compliance Report that covers all aspects of the college's instructional and support functions; a Focused Report addressing concerns raised by the Compliance Report; a four-day, intensive site visit and finally the submission of a Response Report in which the college outlines any final adjustments suggested by the visiting committee.
In other action, regents unanimously approved the annual contracts for professional and faculty members for the 2019-20 academic year. Regents also unanimously approved the contracts for replacement positions including instructors for Process Technology, Nursing, English, History as well as a Disability Services coordinator and Distance Education and Instructional Design director.
    Regents also:
-heard update on maintenance tax note projects
    -received annual grants report
-approved submission of the third-year application for the Wagner-Peyser Grant
-approved submission of the Careers in Texas Industry Grant
-approved revising local Board Policy BBE
    -approved contract for disability services
-approved upgrade project for firing range
    -approved purchase of theatre upgrades
    -approved monthly financial reports
The board will have its next meeting on May 23 at 6 p.m. in the Nolan Ryan Cener.
