    ACC Regents Extend Presidents Contract
    Alvin Community College regents voted unanimously to extend the contract of President Dr. Christal M. Albrecht during their meeting on August 15.
    With the one-year extension, Dr. Albrecht will serve as president through August 31, 2022. She was named the college’s sixth president in 2014.
    “We have evaluated her work over the past five years and we are extremely pleased with the progress the college has made,” Board Chair Mike Pyburn said. “She has done an excellent job for ACC and we want to show the community that we support her leadership.”
    Albrecht has improved the college’s operations while also expanding collaboration with community partners and successfully implementing a five-year strategic plan.
    “The last five years have flown by and every day I am excited to come to work,” Albrecht said. “Alvin Community College is an outstanding institution, built on the foundation of those who preceded me. I am grateful for the leadership of our supportive Board and the dedication of our amazing faculty, staff, and administrators, we are making improvements every day that assist our students in reaching their goals.”
    In other action, regents approved the 2019-20 fiscal year budget. The $34.53 million budget is a 3.38 percent increase from the current fiscal year budget and includes a salary increase for employees, new faculty and staff positions and funds for new programs including Health Information Management and Cybersecurity.
    The new budget will also allow for $280,000 to be placed in institutional reserve.
    “With this budget we will have the funding to support necessary projects and staffing,” Pyburn said. “This will also allow us to maintain our programs while also starting new ones.”
    The board also proposed a tax rate of 18.58 cents per $100 of appraised property value. The new rate is slightly less than the 18.77 cent rate from the previous fiscal year. Public hearings will be held on the proposed rate on September 5 and 12 at 6 p.m. in the Nolan Ryan Center.
    Regents also:
    -approved grant application for a Mobile Go grant
    -approved hiring an English instructor
    -approved purchasing agreement with Texas Association of Community College Business Officers
    -approved 2019-20 fiscal year purchasing requests
    -approved investment policy
    -approved President’s goals for 2019-20
    -heard update on the maintenance note projects including possible renovations of Building G, landscaping and the installation of new sidewalks and a scheduling update
    -approved monthly financial reports
    The board will have its next meeting on September 26 at 6 p.m. in the Nolan Ryan Center.
